Creating Rhythms That
Support Your Season
Now that I’ve surrendered what doesn’t belong, how do I faithfully live what does?
THIS WEEK IN THE EDIT
Surrender is not the end. It is the beginning of learning a new way to live.
After we open our hands, we have to resist the pull to return to old patterns simply because they are familiar. This week, we're looking at how staying close to God, renewing our minds, and establishing healthy rhythms can help us remain aligned with His direction.
Not rhythms that help us carry more—but rhythms that support what God has actually entrusted to us in this season.
As you read, ask:
Lord, what new way of living are You establishing in me?

MY LIFE. . .GOD’s STORY
Now that I’ve surrendered what doesn’t belong, how do I faithfully live what does?
Now that I have opened my hands, surrendered, and allowed God to remove what doesn’t belong does not mean that everything is suddenly all good. I constantly find myself trying to pick things back up and move out of alignment because, for so much of my life, that has been my rhythm. But in this season, I want to do something different. I want to be obedient. I want to move according to God’s plan and not my own.
The Word tells us not to conform to the patterns we have known, but to “be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2). I’m learning that surrendering something once doesn’t automatically erase the patterns I built while carrying it. My mind has to be renewed, and for me, that means sitting every single day with the One I surrendered it all to and submitting what is on my heart to Him in prayer.
Sometimes that prayer is:
Lord, what should I cook for dinner that actually fits today’s schedule?
Sometimes it is:
Show me how to be more compassionate with my Mom and my daughter because I’m running on minimal sleep.
And sometimes it is:
Lord, help me prioritize this day. Don’t allow the decisions I make concerning myself, my family, my business, my ministry, or my calendar to create overwhelm, confusion, anxiety, fear, unrest, or strife that stalls my momentum and keeps me from moving faithfully through this day.
This time with God isn’t new for me. It’s a strategic rhythm I practiced for many years. But when chaos hit, life continued to go hard, and I became more and more weary. The rhythms I had established became displaced. They were forgotten. Life consumed me. Overwhelm consumed me. And eventually, the chaos drowned out the natural rhythms that had once helped keep me grounded.
But I never stopped talking to God. I prayed. I desperately sought His face. I chased after Him because I needed deliverance from the weight of everything I was carrying. and it wasn’t that God wasn’t speaking. It was that,
“I could no longer hear Him.”
The chaos became so loud and distracting that I began following that sound more than God’s voice. Somewhere along the way, I got lost. I got lost in the enemy’s lies about who I was and what my purpose was. I got lost in the humdrum of daily life and became what I thought everybody needed me to be - Perfect Brandy.
But I was numb and disconnected from the real me. I performed for the outside world while I was falling apart on the inside, and nobody knew. I became very good at masking what was actually happening while maintaining the appearance of a well-put-together life. Until the weight became too much to bear. I had to yield all. Surrender all.
I remember the evening I finally admitted that I couldn’t hold everything together anymore. I told my husband I was going to quit EVERYTHING—and I meant everything. I quit my good-paying job. I stepped away from my real estate business, and I did it without a Plan B. All I knew, was that my life was hanging in the balance and I had to do something to get ME back.
I was lost. I was on the verge of a complete breakdown. And I finally realized:
“I was the cost that needed to be counted.”
Jesus asks a sobering question in Luke 14:28: “Which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost?” For years, I had counted the cost of building businesses, serving people, caring for family, meeting expectations, and keeping everything moving. I had not counted what carrying all of it was costing me. Surrender became a journey. I would say it took about eighteen months before I really began finding my joy again. But let me tell you something,
“Surrender is not a one-time event.”
It is a journey I’m still walking, and what I’m learning now is that the way I faithfully live and steward what God says belongs to me is not by taking everything back into my own hands. I surrender it to Him. Again. And again. And again. Then I listen, and when He speaks, I take the next faithful step He instructs me to take.
Maybe that is what establishing a new rhythm really looks like. Not building a life so perfectly structured that I never lose my way again. But establishing rhythms that continually help me return to God when I do.

SCRIPTURE MEDITATION
Before You Establish, Commit
“Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” — Proverbs 16:3 NIV
Proverbs 16 places our plans beside the sovereignty and wisdom of God.
The chapter begins:
“To humans belong the plans of the heart, but from the LORD comes the proper answer of the tongue.” — Proverbs 16:1 NIV
Then:
“All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the LORD.” — Proverbs 16:2 NIV
And only then do we arrive at verse 3:
“Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”
That order matters. Proverbs isn’t giving us a formula for getting God to make our plans successful. The surrounding verses confront the assumption that because something seems right to us, it must be right. We can make plans. We can believe our motives are good. But God sees what we cannot see. So before establishment comes submission. Before asking God to establish what we’re building, we bring what we’re building before Him.
This changes what it means to establish rhythms with God. A surrendered rhythm doesn’t begin with:
What routine would make my life work better? It begins with, Lord, what are You asking me to faithfully carry in this season?
Then our rhythms become a response to what God has entrusted to us rather than an attempt to control everything around us. That is an important distinction. We aren’t asking God to fit into the rhythm. We’re establishing the rhythm around obedience to God.
This is where I have to examine myself.
Have I actually committed my plans to God—or have I made my plans and asked Him to help me accomplish them? Have I filled my calendar before asking what belongs there? Have I continued rhythms simply because they’ve always been my rhythms? Have I confused being productive with being faithful?
And perhaps the harder question:
Am I trying to establish something God is asking me to surrender? Because we can become extremely disciplined at maintaining something that God never told us to carry. I know what it feels like to have rhythms that once worked. I also know what it feels like when life becomes so heavy that those rhythms disappear.
That’s part of what I’m rebuilding now. But I’m not trying to rebuild my old life. That’s important. I don’t want to recreate the version of Brandy who could carry everything, keep everything moving, show up for everybody, and still somehow appear put together.
She is not the goal.
I’m asking God. “What belongs now?”
What does faithfulness look like with my family now?
My home now?
My health now?
My ministry now?
Her Ordered Life now?
My responsibilities now?
And then, what rhythms will help me remain faithful to those things without returning to the patterns God has been delivering me from? That’s a very different way of building.
REFLECTION BEFORE GOD
Before you create another routine, rearrange your calendar, or decide what your next season should look like, sit with Proverbs 16:1–3.
Bring your plans before God. Bring your motives. Bring the responsibilities you’re carrying. Bring the things you’re considering adding.
And ask:
Lord, what are You establishing in this season—and what have I been trying to establish without first committing it to You?
Don’t rush to create the rhythm. Listen first. Then establish what supports your obedience.
PRAYER PROMPT
Heavenly Father, before I build, plan, add, or establish anything, I bring it before You. Expose what I’m building that You never asked me to carry. Search my heart and reveal where my plans have gotten ahead of Your direction. Show me what You have entrusted to me in this season, what I need to release, and detail the rhythms that will support my obedience. Quiet my own agenda long enough for me to hear Yours. I commit my plans to You—establish only what aligns with Your will.
In Jesus’ Name Amen.
THE ORDER OF THE WEEK
Establish Before You Expand
After surrender, there can be a temptation to immediately fill the empty space. Don’t.
Before adding something new, establish what needs to remain. Look at the season you are actually living—not the season you wish you were in, the one you just left, or the one you hope comes next.
Ask yourself,
“What has God entrusted to me right now?”
Then look for the few rhythms that make faithfulness in those areas easier. If caring for your body belongs in this season, establish a rhythm around it. If caregiving belongs, establish support around it. If God has given you work to build, give that work a place. If your family needs more of your presence, protect it. If rest is necessary for you to remain faithful, stop treating rest as what happens after everything else is finished.
A rhythm is not another obligation.
“A healthy rhythm creates a place for what God has already said matters.”
The goal isn’t, “How much can I fit into this season?”
The better question is, “What will help me faithfully steward this season?”
Healthy rhythms don’t help us carry more—they create the support we need to faithfully steward what God has placed in our hands.

PRACTICAL STEWARDSHIP
The Three-Rhythm Reset
Don’t overhaul your entire life this week. Choose three rhythms.
1. A RHYTHM THAT RETURNS YOU TO GOD
What helps you hear His voice again?
Prayer before touching your phone?
Scripture in the morning?
A prayer walk?
Quiet before everyone wakes?
Choose one and begin again just You and God.
2. A RHYTHM THAT SUPPORTS WHAT YOU MUST STEWARD
Look at what actually belongs in your hands right now.
Maybe it’s meal planning, caregiving preparation, a family calendar check, focused work time, exercise, a morning or bedtime routine, or resetting your home.
Choose one rhythm that makes something you must carry easier to carry faithfully.
3. A RHYTHM THAT HELPS YOU RETURN
This one matters. So write it down, pen to paper.
Because you WILL get interrupted.
You WILL have difficult days.
You may MISS the rhythm entirely.
So, ESTABLISH a way back.
Your return rhythm might simply be:
Stop → Pray → Reassess → Take the next faithful step.
Your rhythms don’t need to keep life from happening. They need to help you find your way back when it does.
A QUESTION I'M SITTING WITH
“Have I built rhythms for the season I’m actually in—or am I still trying to live according to a season God has already changed?”
This question confronts me because sometimes the rhythm isn’t wrong. It’s simply expired.
There are ways I have lived, worked, served, produced, and carried responsibility that once made sense.
But my life changed. My responsibilities changed. My capacity changed. And God changed me. Yet sometimes, I still measure today’s faithfulness against yesterday’s capacity. Maybe establishing order isn’t always about becoming more disciplined. Sometimes it’s accepting,
“This is the season I’m actually in.”
And then not leaning to my own understanding and asking God how He wants me to live faithfully here because I can trust that He will direct my path. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
ONE TINY SHIFT CHALLENGE
Ask Before You Add
For the next seven days, before adding something to your calendar, making a commitment, or automatically saying yes, I want you to pause.
Ask:
Lord, does this belong in my hands in this season?
You don’t need a dramatic answer every time. Just create the pause.
That pause interrupts the old rhythm of automatically picking everything back up—and creates space to hear God before you respond.
Your challenge:
This week, practice the pause: Pray. Listen. Then decide.
THE WHOLE REFLECTION
W — WORSHIP & WELLNESS
What rhythm helps me remain connected to God and attentive to what is happening in my body and mind?
H — HOME & HEART
What rhythm would bring greater support to my home, family, relationships, or heart in this season?

What work, calling, ministry, or assignment has God actually entrusted to me right now?
L — LIFE & LEGACY
What decision or stewardship rhythm made today will support the woman I’m becoming and the life I’m building?
E — ENJOY & EXPERIENCE
Where do I need to intentionally receive rest, joy, beauty, connection, or simple enjoyment instead of always focusing on what needs to be done?
Which ONE area is God highlighting?

REFLECTION BEFORE GOD
Open Your Bible. Sit With God. Don’t Rush. Take a few quiet moments before the Lord. Don't rush to answer. Ask Him to reveal what He wants you to see.
RECOGNIZE — What pattern do I keep returning to that God is asking me to leave behind? Read Romans 12:1-2.
Where does your thinking need to be renewed so you stop returning to what you’ve already surrendered?DISCERN — What has God actually entrusted to me in this season—and what am I carrying that may no longer belong? Read Ecclesiastes 3:1.
What becomes clearer when you accept the season God has actually given you?RESPOND — What rhythm is God asking me to establish that will support my obedience in this season? Read James 1:22-25.
What is the next faithful step you can take in response to what He has shown you?
CLOSING PRAYER
LET'S PRAY
Dear Heavenly Father,
I’ve opened my hands to You, but if I’m being truthful, there are still days when I reach back for what I surrendered.
I reach for control when I’m afraid.
I fall back into old patterns when I’m tired.
I say yes when I should pause.
I carry things because I’m used to being the one who carries them.
And sometimes the noise inside and around me becomes so loud that I struggle to hear You clearly.
Lord, I don’t want to go back to the way I used to live simply because it’s familiar.
Teach me a new way to live.
Renew my mind where my thinking still agrees with old patterns. Expose the places where I’m calling something responsibility that You never asked me to carry. Show me where fear, pressure, expectations, or the need to hold everything together are still influencing my decisions. I don't want to become so busy managing my life that I lose sight of You again.
Keep me close.
When I begin moving ahead of You, slow me down.
When I start picking things back up, remind me to open my hands.
When I cannot hear You over the noise, teach me to become still enough to listen again.
And Lord, show me what does belong in my hands.
My family.
My home.
My body.
My relationships.
My work.
My ministry.
My calling.
My time.
My rest.
Whatever You have entrusted to me in this season, teach me how to steward it without losing myself or losing sight of You in the process. Establish rhythms in my life that keep bringing me back to Your presence—not rhythms built from pressure or perfection, but rhythms that support my obedience. I know now that surrender isn't something I do once.
So when tomorrow comes, I surrender again.
When the season changes, I surrender again.
When my plans are interrupted, I surrender again.
When I don't understand what You're doing, I surrender again.
I don't need to know every step from here. I just need to stay close enough to hear You and fully surrendered to obey the moment You speak. Father, establish in me what You want to remain, remove what keeps pulling me out of alignment, and teach me how to faithfully live the life You have actually given me.
One surrendered yes.
One obedient decision.
One faithful step at a time.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
